Gah! 53 years old and I have my first. And I don't like it. I drink my 64 oz water daily, I exercise regularly [with varying intensity]. I eat balanced. And I got my first UTI.

Any helpful hints from those who BTDT?

Pants and shorts are NOT my friend laugh Good thing it summertime because maxi dresses
& sun dresses are my friends.

PS - as this is SI, I'm sure y'all know the "panic" when I realized something wasn't right down there. I am happy to report that I told WH I made an appointment to get this checked out and why. That I think it may be my first UTI but I'm not going to sit and wonder - or to to Walmart and try to self treat. He looked at me and gently said "I'm sure your mind is racing, but I promise you a UTI is the only thing it could be" I thanked him for the reassurance and understanding and told him I did google for my own curiosity. And given history, all testing must be done. He sadly understood but wanted to offer reassurance.

I am happy to report - it us a run of the mill UTI and the practitioner said if I've lived this long without one - I should count my blessings LOL. However she also complimented me on mentioning my fears and concerns and coming in when I did no matter how scared I was. Many women have caused themselves more problems [and some lifelong] by not being honest with their doctors or themselves.

Antibiotics will make you feel better in 24 hours.
Azo is an over the counter med that stops the burning and urgency. It also makes your pee bright orange. But it works almost immediately upon taking it. Make sure you are continuing to drink your water and get cranberry juice, not cocktail but juice. Less sugar more of the good stuff. Or just get fresh cranberries and make a batch of them, and eat up.

Now one of the bad things that happens when you take Antibiotics is you are also prone to getting a yeast infection so get a good probiotic to put the good bacteria back in your body.

Now given your age and the fact this is the first one you have had it is good to ID what its from or what caused it.
Like did you have too much sexy fun time? Or are hormones in Flux given the age? Or is your glucose running high?

The reason to figure it out is to prevent additional ones and make sure you don't have an undiagnosed condition. UTIs can often be the first identifier in pre-diabetes.

Thanks tushnurse. Just got some 100% cranberry juice. I'm good at my water. I have some yogurt on hand Monistat on reserve. My glucose is usually good when I have routine bloodwork. I'm a healthy weight for my height [and don't fluctuate by anything concerning]. Truth - I don't know my weight [I tell my Dr that I don't want to know because I like myself and don't want that to change because of a number. I've worn the same size for years.

The current theory [and time will tell] is I had surgery on my bladder earlier this year [it relocated itself due to my 2017 hysterectomy] and that caused issues that Pelvic Floor Therapy couldn't fix. I remember going into it that more frequent UTI could be an issue after the fact.

I'm documenting things and will go from there. And plan to keep my follow up apts with the urologist.

Getting older is so much fun LOL

So, I'm curious... I'm I an anomaly that I'm in my early 60s and have never had a UTI, then? My water take is on the low end of average, which I definitely need to work on. I do workout out, at least four times a week, but my weight is borderline 'on the heavier' side.

I really don't hear any of my friends talking about getting one, either.

number4 - I get the curious. Up until the other day I was the only person I knew that never had one. And many couldn't believe it. Both my girls and my sister are very prone to them.

This will be a serious topic for discussion at my upcoming annual physical and my later follow up with the urologist that performed the surgery.

And...the damn thing is back! Or never fully went away to begin with. Another round of antibiotics and an Rx yeast med in the Land of Chars mad

Seriously - I drink my water, eat healthy, exercise regularly. What else can I do?

Annual Physical in 2 weeks. This will be a huge topic of discussion.

I had many UTIs when I was younger. Like, every 6 months for a couple years. My doctor delicately put it to me as "newlywed UTI". Not that it only applies to newlyweds, but to illustrate that a change in body chemistry, or an adjustment period, etc can all be factors. So I would look at all the possible things - have you or your WH recently changed medication or some such that could make you more susceptible or adjusted your body chemistry, that sort of thing.

And of course, plenty of water, cranberry in various forms, making sure you're heading to the restroom at least every couple hours during the day. And the number one factor that helped me was, erm, both urinating and hosing the area off very well immediately after fun time.

I wish you luck in identifying the source.

I use to get UTI's every now and then
But....ever since I read this in a magazine many years ago I haven't had one!
Believe it or not
Alka-selzer does the trick!!!

Not sure why....but, it really takes it away!

ChewedMeUp - thanks. Menopause/aging could be a factor. I've had a hysterectomy and am in my early/mid 50s. I've always been...good...at the "after" but always a good reminder grin

Kate1223 - this may be a dumb question but do you mean to take it as directed or...um...topically?
