I'm glued to it. From the time this story broke I was fascinated by it. This man has no soul.
I am totally amazed that the bank CEO was participating in all that financial fraud. This was all money that belonged to victims of whatever crime it was that got them those settlements in the first place. It's just baffling.

The testimony yesterday from his attorney/friend that he ripped off for $192K was heartbreaking. And then today, the housekeeper's son.
I mean, it is established legal fact that AM swindled the family out of millions. Never even told the young man there was an umbrella policy. The only reason he knew about it was a relative or acquaintance read about it and called to tell him he needed to check that out. And THAT is what the defense decided to grill the boy about. Trying to trip him up by insisting he is the one who read about the settlement and whether he made the call in June 21 or AM did.
I really liked the fingerprint witness and the firearms expert that's testifying today.

Having been a finance director for my city, I was riveted by the movement of money through accounts that no one seemed to be keeping track of. This guy stole over $5 million and no one knows where it went. The fact that a bank CEO would go along and facilitate that speaks volumes about how sure everyone was that no one would ever go after a Murdaugh. This case is amazing on many levels.

So if y’all aren’t watching this, you are missing out. Look up the Krispy Kreme lady 🤣🤣🤣. This is the most South Carolina thing I could imagine.
Charity, can you believe the defense opened the door to Cousin Eddie and the roadside shooting? After the Judge hammered the point that they needed to stay far away from the topic?

HFSSC, at this point I can believe just about anything. The judge is getting fed up with these attorneys. I don't think there is any need for additional crimes to be brought in. The picture of who this guy is is so damning already, its just overkill at this point.
I thought the expert testimony about the wounds was really powerful. It painted a vivid picture of just how brutal Mutdaugh was. And watching him through that testimony was fascinating. He has more ways to pretend he's crying than anyone I've ever seen.

Cousin Eddie is a can of worms. This whole situation sounds like a. Novel.

PP I don’t think the State is going to put him on the stand. I think the testimony from the SLED agent yesterday and the 911 call and 2 interviews painted that picture. And Eddie is too much of a wild card.
I think Harpootlian and Griffin know he is guilty as sin. And I think they are setting up for appeal in case he is found guilty. I’m interested to see how they cross examine Agent Kelly today.

I saw an article that Murghdaugh confessed he called cousin Eddie to shoot him in the head. The whole thing is awlful. First the son kills his friend drunk boating, him and his Morther are murdered. How many other people did they kill?

The defense lawyers’ arrogance is disproportionate to their legal skills. They’re so used to a corrupt system that has always worked in their favor that they’ve been making a lot of amateurish blunders since the Alex was charged… such as explicitly admitting that their client committed all the financial crimes of which he is accused, even though he hasn’t been convicted of them yet.

Prickle,
Idk if you really want the answer to that question, but for one, there was their housekeeper Gloria Satterfield who died under very suspicious circumstances at the same home ("Moselle") where Maggie and Paul were killed. She fell/slipped/tripped over the dogs, fell down stairs or steps causing a head injury and her ultimate death. She had worked for the family for close to 20 years, serving as a nanny to Buster and Paul. Alex Murdaugh is the one who approached Satterfield's sons and suggested/invited them to sue. He told them about a $500K liability policy on the property.
He, however, did not tell them about the $5Million umbrella policy. And when those policies paid off at $515,000 and 3+ $million those sons didn't see a penny. Alex stole that $ along with millions of dollars he stole from other clients as well as his law firm. PMPED, the law firm where Alex was a partner, did pay the amounts due to Satterfield's sons to make that right.
There was also the very suspicious death of Stephen Smith In 2015. He was found on a rural road in Hampton county with head wounds and the "investigation" was a farce. It was ruled a hit and run even though there were no wounds to his torso or extremities. There were rumors that he was involved with Buster, perhaps sexually. Nearly every person interviewed implicated one of the Murdaugh brothers but no one was willing to go on the record, citing fear of this incredibly powerful family.
Blue,
Harpootlian is crooked as a barrel of fish hooks and is showing his age. Jim Griffin is Alex's friend. The saying goes, "A lawyer who represents him/herself has a fool for a client.". I think it is probably true for representing a friend as well.
The testimony from Maggie's sister was compelling and heartbreaking. But the testimony about the GM data and the GPS data from Paul and Maggie's phones just broke me. I don't know how anyone could have any doubt at this point.

Have you all watched the CNN series or the Netflix three part series on the Murdaughs? In both, it became clear to me that Paul's friends and his girlfriend are scared to death. Even though Paul is dead and his father is in jail, the far reaching tentacles of this family gives them good reason to be afraid.

Well, so far this week we've had a county coroner (who wasn't called by the prosecution for reasons which became abundantly clear), a defense attorney who literally pointed one of the guns from evidence AT THE PROSECUTION TABLE and said, "Tempting!"; another defense attorney (um, the same one who demanded a gag rule) retweeting an article describing the poor investigation conducted by police and getting busted because it showed up in the judge's Twitter feed even though, to quote His Honor, "You and I are not Twitter friends."
I'm just... Almost beyond words.
The coroner, who pronounces "rigor" (as in rigor mortis) like "rye-grr" instead of "rig-rr" made his time of death estimate by (I wish I was making this up) sticking his UNGLOVED hands in the victims' armpits because he felt he would violate their dignity by taking a rectal temperature. Maybe I've read too much Patricia Cornwell because I thought liver temp was fairly standard and has the added benefits of not involving armpits or rectums. (Recti??)
There was a defense witness yesterday who is apparently an expert in every single subject area except pine tree growth and the effects of a falling body on bullet trajectory. He's quite certain the shooter is 5'2" or shorter. Oh, and plus, maybe there were 2 midget ninja shooters.
Today's finest moment was brought to us by Defense Attorney Jim Griffin who announced that they are considering (meaning, I'm pretty sure, that this narcissistic ass is insisting on testifying) calling Alex to the stand and then asking for limits on what the state can cross examine him on.
Omg, the look on the judge's face
"Um, that's not how this works."
I feel like I should feel bad for seeing the humor in this ridiculous shit show. But it feels like Ozark crossed with Breaking Bad set in Hazzard County.

You sure that isn't Defense Attorney Gym Gryffon? LOL!
I've been following through Inside Edition, and it seems unreal.
ETA: The murder is horrible and beyond words. The death of anyone is horrendous. When discussing the context of this trial, the attorneys are out to generate media fury. The entire family dynamic is being exploited. An entirely terrible situation.

Wow, I don't know one thing about this trial, but I'm working from home and have it on in the background. He is testifying about all the money he stole. The thing that gets me is why did he take the stand? He's not really helping his case. He is a trial lawyer and not very impressive, between this new distraction and being on SI I'm not very productive today

OK, I really hadn't been following this trial, except through what you guys are posting... it reads like a mob story - everyone did something wrong.
But today the coverage popped up while I had CNN on in the background. I get that this guy is scum. He's admitting to a lot of stuff. But because I haven't been watching, I'm wondering if there's any chance at all that he's not guilty? Could it have been someone else? What direct evidence do they have on him?

Number 4, there isn’t any direct evidence but a couple of metric shit tons of circumstantial evidence.
The ammo that killed Maggie was identical to ammunition from the house and also old spent rounds around the crime scene. The shells were cycled through the same gun.
Alex lied about being at the kennels with Maggie and Paul repeatedly. Until this morning he never admitted to anyone that he was at the kennels even though at least 6 people identified his voice on the video. Oh, but today he is so sorry for lying but his pill addiction made him paranoid of law enforcement.
Oh but he used his little volunteer solicitor’s badge and had blue lights installed on his car to give the appearance of being in law enforcement when it suited his needs. So which is it? Is he so scared of LE that he would lie about a major fact relating to the horrific murder of his wife and son? Or is he a poser who flashes the badge and the good ole boy smile to get out of a ticket or worse?
There was a very small window of opportunity that was entirely dependent on Paul and Maggie deciding to go to the kennels while Alex was… taking a nap? Watching TV? Going to visit Mom? These were 3 people who were never without their phones. Every person who has testified with any knowledge of him personally has stated that Alex was never without his phone and almost always is talking on it. Yet there is an hour of no activity on his phone. And neither Paul nor Maggie’s phones show any indication that they were used after about 9:10 iirc.
So who else could have or would have known to show up after 845 pm, when Alex purportedly went back to the house , had access to family weapons and killed them around 9?
Alex claimed to have checked both bodies, tried to turn Paul over and check for pulses before calling 911 but there were less than 20 seconds from the time his truck stopped and the 911 call.
I just don’t see how anyone else could have or would have done it.

I have not watched this trial but from what I have heard, there are SO many points for appeal already - if he is found guilty. I see the judge as weak for allowing many things to transpire on behalf of both the prosecutor AND the defense.
