A couple of weeks ago we were at our D's house, on their backyard patio. Grandson has a water table he has really enjoyed playing with now that it's warmed up and he inevitably ends up soaked. He's also prone to filling his cups and buckets from the table and drinking from them. We all let that ship sail over a month ago.
So all four of us adults were on the patio where he was wondering around, pouring water, drinking water, etc. All four of us somehow MISS that he has moved over to the table where they keep his saucer of bubble solution next to the measuring cup that they use to pour the bubbles into the saucer. And in his eyes, he looks at that measuring cup and thinks to himself, "Hey this must be water like in all the other containers out here," and proceeds to take a swig from them cup. We're not sure if he's swallowed any, but by the time we notice what he's holding in his hand, and see the look on his face, we know what he has done. He gets this perplexed look on his face, looks at all of us, and as he starts to open his mouth to voice his displeasure, yup... bubbles start coming out of his mouth. I mean, mouth-sized bubbles, and several at once! Then he'd close his mouth when he realized what was happening, and try again. But bubbles would come out again.
We were all laughing so hard and in such disbelief at what had happened that none of us thought to pull out our phones and try to catch it on video. We finally realized we needed to try to coach him on how to put some water in his mouth and spit it out, but he wouldn't dare drink anything else at this point, after just experiencing a teachable moment with a mouthful of soap. So he just kept making bubbles. This must have gone on for a minute, until we finally got him to just drink some water, giving up on getting him to spit. We were all crying we were laughing so hard, and honestly, he was being a good sport... he didn't cry or freak out (maybe that's not such a good thing - we should hope he learned his lesson).
For those of a certain generation, there was an episode of Gilligan's Island where Gilligan eats some soap and starts blowing bubbles out of his mouth. That's what this reminded me of!
