My husband and I are going to NYC in the fall and I am trying to figure out the best area to stay. We like walkability , restaurants, shopping. We will be doing a broadway show, Central Park, 911 memorial/museum, Statue of Liberty. etc.

I was looking at East Village, but the options are overwhelming.

TIA

I understand from a former poster here who lives or lived in tUpper Manhattan West near the Hudson that it is more of a residential area with lot of small shops and places to walk. Maybe check that out since it isn't in the highest concentration of tourist areas?

We now stay with my son under the GW bridge (well, 8 short blocks from the bridge), but we used to stay around 72nd and Broadway. Walking distance to Lincoln Center, Central Park, American Museum of Natural History, restaurants, bars, shops, older hotels, airbnbs, and a subway station that will send you to a multitude of destinations.

Be sure to visit the Tenement Museum, if you haven't done so already. Also, I think people will like The Museum of The City of New York, though it's not as much of a slam dunk as the Tenement Museum. (Teenaged GS has taken to The Museum of The City of New York 3 times, and each trip has been worth while.

You don't have to like your boundaries. You just have to set and enforce them.
