I'm really embarrassed so please no judgment

I have a 90 pill refill of my 2 prescriptions ready to pick up but my new insurance wont kick in for justundwr 60 days. I downloaded goodrx to check prices, I can do 30 days of each but the prescription is for 90. The doc told me this is the last one he can write without an office visit (which is fine as in 2 months I'm good)

My question is this. Once the prescription is at the pharmacy, are the allowed to sell me 30 now and come back for 30 next month once I'm paid? Is that allowed?

I've been on both meds for multiple years and can't just decide not to take them. They're for depression and work great but skipping days has side effects and I don't want to make myself ill. I'm down to my last couple so I need them this week for sure.

I feel so ashamed that I'm so short on money so please don't tell me I should've got the prescription sooner. I managed to scrape together enough for the 30 but when I saw the price for 90 this morning I got embarrassed and said I'd come back tomorrow. I've been home looking at options and I'm doing my best

I don't know how much this happens anymore, but you can ask your doctor's office if they have any samples.

And be very honest with them that at this point you can only afford 30 days. They will rewrite the script for you for 30 days with two refills.

I am so sorry you are going through this. Many of us have been in similar situations. Absolutely no judgement.

I don’t know your specific situation, but thought I would type a little information that might be helpful…..

Depending on the medication and your insurance or not having insurance, there may be direct to consumer programs or copay assist programs (some of which are based on income and some of which are not).

The pharmacy was very helpful to me when I did not have the ability to pay for full prescriptions. They dispensed less than the full prescription, leaving the ones I did not buy open for me to buy. Good rx could show the cost of various quantities. I did find that in some cases lower quantities were more per pill than higher quantities. But it got me by.

Know this is not an option due to cost if someone does not have a membership, but at one point I bought the higher level Sam’s club membership to get my medication discounted. It does not hurt to check with the pharmacy there for pricing. I know some people who save a lot buying there. And the pharmacist was nice and helpful to me.

Medical social workers, the internet (with due caution of course), and often times doctor office staff can assist with identifying and filling out forms. As examples, I assisted a friend who has commercial insurance (i.e. insurance from "work") get assistance from the manufacturer for a greatly reduced copay not based on income. It took maybe 15 minutes from a verified site and they saved hundreds of $$. I get an expensive medication I need that is non formulary with my insurance (not covered) shipped directly to me for $20 a month not based on income. Otherwise I would pay hundreds of $$. Another one I used to take that would also have been hundreds a month my doctor was able to get for me through a direct from the manufacturer program for I think it was $25 a month. Not based on income.

In the US, if these are mental health medications, local mental health centers may have resources.

And some physician offices have samples of some general medications. I have received samples through my primary care doctor before.

I hope you find the help you need. I have only good things to say about the pharmacy a staff that has helped me in the past.

One more thing they taught me is that the cash prices of some medications can be less than my insurance co-pay. So it can help to ask.

I also so that NAMI and a couple other organizations posted information on how to get assistance.

Absolutely no judgement. Medical and medication costs can be difficult stuff. I hope you find a solution to your situation.

Good suggestions from everybody, and I'm dealing with some super pricey prescription that my insurance agent for Medicare Drug program told me her father couldn't afford even with their high-price policies (same as the one I've been told to take, $600 a month!) and her Dad found it in Canada for the cost of a co-pay and shipping in larger quantities, not to exceed 90 days, but technically importing drugs is a legal "grey area" with an exception for personsl medical use, so be extra sure to confirm that will be okay in your situation. In my case, the first website I checked up in Canada was NOT one rated by Canada's government as in compliance with their pharmaceutical standards. So I haven't gotten it yet.

The other idea, which Shehawk mentioned, also worked for me recently: I searched online for a "coupon" for a different drug that my insurance has high copay on. Some coupons even allow you to specify the number of pills for a 30-90 day prescription. I got to a local pharmacy with the 30 day coupon I'd printed off, but realized the doctor had prescribed it for 90 days, so I decided to go back home and check to see if I could find one for 90 days. Sure enough, all one has to do with that company was change the days and the new coupon pops up, like $6.00 more! Good luck.

Check out other programs similar to good rx like Single Care, Blink Health, as far as getting 30 and 30 and 30 vs 90 I think it depends on state I would also be up front with privider that you can only do 30 days and once ins kicks in will do an office visit.
SSRIs should not be skipped or stopped abruptly. Reinforce this with office if they push back.
